The priorities of middle school readers are quite clear. It's comics and horror that they want. Give them slime! Give them boogers! Give them fangs and drool and mutant growths and funny cats and they are happy forever. I haven't read any of those. What happened to Richard Peck and Judy Blume? Are they considered passe' now?
I noticed your book recommendations and checked out Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. I loved it. It was very powerful and moving. I had to stop reading it before bed because it was seeping into my dreams.
most female 6th graders have an interest in Mary Kate and Ashley books.Go figure.
